Charlotte Jane McLauchlin, age 111, of Elkhart, and a former longtime Sturgis resident, passed away Monday morning, April 24, 2023 at the Hubbard Hill – Living Wisdom Community in Elkhart.
She was born January 9, 1912 in Bronson, Michigan daughter of the late James A. and Charlotte Elizabeth (Carter) McLauchlin.
Miss McLauchlin resided most of her life in Sturgis and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1931. While a student at Sturgis High School she excelled in athletics, especially basketball.
She retired in 1977 from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment. At the time of her retirement she was working in the Credit Department. Prior to joining the Kirsch Company, she worked at the Centreville Library, and as the County Clerk Librarian.
Miss McLauchlin was a member of the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene and was happiest when she was with her family.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Russell, Archibold, Violet, Grace and Garoldine; niece: Linda Blanchard and nephew: James McLauchlin, III.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 on Thursday, May 4th at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis where funeral services will immediately follow the visitation. The Rev. John Shoup will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
