Linda Jean Kershner, age 71, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday morning, May 4, 2023 at her home. Following an extended illness.
She was born September 29, 1951 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Stanley and Barbara (Werkhaven) Zimmerman.
Linda was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1969. She furthered her education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where she earned a bachelor and master degree in education.
On August 20, 1982 she married Lewis Tod Kershner in Centreville.
In 2005 Linda retired from Sturgis Public Schools following 30 years of dedicated teaching in the elementary and junior high school.
Linda was very musically inclined playing several instruments and was a gifted singer. She performed with the Branch County Community Choir and the Steuben County Festival Choir for many years, and she was an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years: Tod; daughters: Nichelle Kershner and Heidi (Phil) Stephenson both of Portland, Oregon; son: Tyler (Kerry) Kershner of Ypsilanti; grandson: George Oliver Stephenson; sister: Nancy (Gil) Perry of Fairplay, Colorado; brother: John (Judy) Zimmerman of Stuart, Florida; sister-in-law: Brenda Zimmerman of Quincy and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother: Douglas Zimmerman.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, May 11th at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Light refreshments will be served. In accordance with Linda’s wishes cremation will follow the visitation.
