Richard Leeroy Wetherbee, age 87, of Clarksville, Tennessee began his rest with the Lord on Thursday, May 25th, 2023, at Alive Hospice of Nashville, Tennessee.
Richard was born on July 4th, 1936, in Three Rivers, the son of the late Roy Homer & Viola Gertrude (Tyler) Wetherbee.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954 where he served as a Sonar Seaman. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Upon his return to Michigan, he took a job at the Upjohn Company in Portage, where he worked his way up and retired after 35 years. Richard loved University of Michigan and Detroit Lions football, NASCAR racing, golf, and country music; but most of all, he loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and papa. He was a member of McAdoo Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Sonya Ver Sluis of Tennessee; and his step-granddaughter, Brittany Chapman of Michigan.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Lynda Wetherbee of Tennessee; his son, Andrew (Tina) Wetherbee of Tennessee; stepdaughter Darla Murphy of Michigan; his grandchildren: Cole & Alanna Wetherbee of Tennessee; Heather (Miguel) Sigala of Michigan; Denisha, Destiny, & Dominique Martin of Michigan; Tavon Murphy of Michigan; great grandchildren: Korbin, Dominic & Riley; sister JoAnn (Ray) Jesswein of Illinois; brother Jim (Linda) Wetherbee of Michigan; and many extended family and friends between Michigan, Washington and Tennessee.
Richard will be laid to rest in Historic Poe’s Cemetery in Newburg Township near Jones, Michigan with his late parents, per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please make a donation in Richard’s honor to the Dementia Society of America.
