County unemployment up

May’s unemployment rate in St. Joseph County increased by one percent from April.

Figures from the monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget show St. Joseph County’s unemployment rate rose from 3.4 percent in April to 4.4 percent in May.

St. Joseph County’s May 2022 unemployment rate was 4.2 percent.

In addition, Cass County also experienced a jump in its unemployment figures from April to May. Its April rate was 3.5 percent and increased to 4.5 percent a month later.

Meanwhile, Branch County’s one-month unemployment rate grew in May from the previous month. It was 3.2 percent in April and rose to 4 percent in May.
