River cleanup postponed

The threat of rain Saturday morning forced St. Joseph County Conservation District officials to postpone the second of four scheduled river clean-up events this summer.

Volunteers were prepared to work on the Rocky River, from Null Road in Flowerfield Township to Hanks Tavern in Three Rivers. However, conservation district executive director Carolyn Grace said the event had to be postponed for weather-related reasons.

In hindsight, Grace said, the right call was made.

A new date for the Rocky River cleanup has not yet been set.

The next scheduled event is Aug. 5, when volunteers will turn their attention toward a stretch of the Fawn River.
