Local recycling events planned

Polystyrene foam recycling returns to Sturgis next week at the city’s department of public services.

Used foam, including post-consumer foam cups and to-go containers, egg cartons, ice chests, rinsed meat trays and other foam with the No. 6 recycling symbol will be collected 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 5 at 805 N. Centerville Road.

Organizers are also looking for volunteers to assist between 9 and 10:30 a.m., and 10:30 a.m. to noon. Interested volunteers should call Julie Burkey at 659-7223 or email jburkey@sturgismi.gov.

Meanwhile, Waste Management is offering its third Styrofoam recycling event of 2023 a week later.

Its quarterly collection will be 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 12 at Westside Landfill Recycling Center, 60050 Roberts Road, Three Rivers. The recycling station is on the east side of the landfill.
