Margaret Alice Butten, age 96, of East Lansing, and longtime former resident of Sturgis, passed away Monday morning, July 31, 2023 at the Willows of East Lansing.
She was born May 12, 1927 in Battle Creek, daughter of the late Harold and Beatrice (Piatt) Hamilton.
Mrs. Butten resided in Sturgis from 1966 to 2022 when she moved to East Lansing. She also lived in Bronson, Coldwater and Tiffin, Ohio.
On October 2, 1949 she married Robert E. Butten who preceded her in death March of 2004.
She retired November 28, 1988 from Sturgis Newport Business Forms in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment as a secretary in the accounting department.
She was an active member and past Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.
Mrs. Butten is survived by friends: Sandy (Bill) Russell of Mason, Mary Plummer of Williamston, Chris Zimmerman of White Lake, Linda (Gary) Geister of Hillman, Barbara (Joe) Howard of Marlette and David (Vicky) Plummer of Gaylord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother: Ward Hamilton, friends: George and Nancy Plummer, George Plummer, Jr. and James Zimmerman.
Friends and family will be received from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 12th at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Margaret Alice Butten will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00. The Rev. Dr. David Weber will officiate. A graveside committal will take place at the Bronson Cemetery in Bronson.
