Rex Bennett II, 74

Rex Harold Bennett II, age 74, of Mendon, died Monday, August 14, 2023 at his home. He was born in Plymouth, Michigan of August 17, 1948 the son of Rex Brooks Bennett and Violet (Henning) Bennett. He graduated from Plymouth High School and attended Eastern Michigan University. Rex served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a Civil Engineer and worked at Wilkins and Wheaton for 17 years. He later became an independent contractor for residential construction and also worked for Heystek Excavating in Kalamazoo. For many years he enjoyed trips to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for fishing and hunting. An honest and trust-worthy man, he always tried to do things the right way.

Rex is survived by his son, Rex B. Bennett III of Mendon; three grandchildren, Tyler Foreman in the U.S. Navy, Hayden Foreman of Idaho, and Cody Foreman in the U.S. Army; two brothers, Kirk (Carla) Bennett of Boardman, Rick Bennett of Whitmore Lake; sister, Ellen (Bill) Gobles of Metro Detroit; three nephews, Rick Bennett, Nathan Gobles and David Gobles; and by his faithful Black Lab, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a daughter, Tracy Bennett.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A graveside service and military honors will be at 12 noon on Monday, August 21, 2023 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan with Chaplain Carl Austin officiating. Arrangements were by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.
