Nancy Wegner, 88

Nancy Mae Wegner, age 88, of Sturgis, passed away early Friday morning, August 18, 2023 at her home.

She was born March 7, 1935 in Detroit, a daughter of the late Rev. Albert A. and Thelma V. (Priestap) O’Rourke.

Nancy was a longtime Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1953.

On July 4, 1953 she married Richard A. Wegner at the First Baptist Church in Sturgis.

Nancy was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was involved in the manufacturing and selling of the Anchor Fast, a marine product invented by her husband.

Nancy was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis where she was a member of the church choir and she taught preschool Sunday school for 25 years. For many years she served at the secretary for St. Joseph County Right to Life.

She enjoyed family activities, cooking, photography, and fishing with Richard. Nancy had interests and hobbies, but what she took the most pride in was doing the very best she could in being a wife to her husband and mother to her children.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; her children: Mark R. (Rita) Wegner of Baldwin, Laura D. (Steve) Currier of Greenwood, Indiana, Martha R. (Alan) Biland of Racine, Wisconsin, Sarah R. Wegner of Indianapolis, and Rebecca M. (Chris) Rommel of Ellettsville, Indiana; 15 grandchildren many great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one brother: Donald (Judy) O’Rourke of White Pigeon; sister-in-law: Beverly Greshaw of Burr Oak; brother-in-law: Donald (Joni) Wegner of Sturgis, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson: Jacob Currier and one brother: James O’Rourke; sister-in-law: Betty Wegner; brother-in-law and his wife: Kenneth (Betty) Wegner and brother-in-law: Ernie Greshaw.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 and 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, Aug. 21st at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Nancy Mae Wegner will begin at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 22nd. The Revs. Larry Matro and Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
