Joan Marie (Broker) Bracy, age 80, of Three Rivers, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Birch Meadows Senior Care.
She was born March 6, 1943 in Three Rivers, the daughter of Jack and Margaret (Cassell) Broker.
Joan attended Three Rivers High School, graduating with high honors. She received her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University, later her master’s degree from Michigan State University.
She married Alan Jansen in December 1965. They had one son, Kenneth Alan Jansen. They later divorced. In April 1976, she married Frank L. Bracy, Jr.
Joan taught elementary education in Leslie, Michigan, receiving a plaque for 29 years of service. She specialized in reading and slow learners. After retirement, she enjoyed tutoring students and was a mentor through Three Rivers Area Mentoring. She enjoyed a good book, dancing, and traveling the U.S.A. Joan was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jane Reetz and Jan Reames; and husband, Frank.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her brother, David (Jan) Broker of Three Rivers; sister, Judy (Scott) Mitchell of Centreville; son, Ken Jansen and granddaughter, Katherine of Olathe, Kansas; many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Gary C. Reames and Robert Reetz.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers. A funeral service will follow at 11:00. She will be laid to rest at West Carmel Cemetery in Carmel Township.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Make-a-Wish, or the charity of your choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
