Local business receives grant for expansion project

Burr Oak-based Carter Associates has received a $100,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

Awarded as part of the Michigan Business Development Program, the grant will support a project expected to generate $3 million in capital investment and create 20 new jobs.

Carter’s three Michigan locations now employ 18 people to manufacture reusable, green packaging products, including shipping totes, thermoformed packaging and pallets and produce sleeves.

The company also manufactures electric heating panels for low-energy, consuming heat sources for agribusiness, construction and automotive customers.

Two locations in Burr Oak will consolidate by renovating and retooling 35,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

Carter Associates’ decision to expand operations at their Burr Oak and Sturgis facilities will double their size and result in up to 20 jobs.
