Rocky Alan Maurer, age 63, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, September 9, 2023, with his loving family by his side.
Rocky was born September 28, 1959 to Harold and Lillian (Heath) Maurer in Albion, MI. Growing up amongst seven siblings, Rocky established that family was an integral part of who he was from an early age. Sunday dinners at mom’s were a family favorite – one that continued on to the next generation. After attending Coldwater High School, Rocky began his career at Weyerhaeuser, now International Paper. During his 36 years there he was known as a dedicated, excellent employee and friend to many.
On December 7, 2002, he married Sharon Schoonover – the absolute love of his life. Rocky developed an avid love of softball which through the years evolved from competitive play to (loudly) cheering his grandchildren on. His dedication to the University of Michigan was unmatched, everyone who knew him knew his love of Michigan football. You could often find him enjoying the great outdoors with his family – hunting, fishing, and loving everyday. He even enjoyed stretching his vocal cords, during Karaoke at the Eagles singing his favorite country music by artists like Johnny Horton and Hank Williams.
Rocky was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was clever and knew how to find a deal absolutely anywhere – especially on Facebook Marketplace.
Rocky will be remembered for his deep love of family – his greatest passion of all was his children and grandchildren where he especially enjoyed watching them compete in sports. He will be dearly missed as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Sharon Maurer; sons, Rocky (Kendra) Maurer and Lance (Erica) Maurer; daughters, Christy Lane, Stacy (Mike) Johnson and Carey (Mike) Pekan; siblings, Robert Maurer, Randy Maurer, Doug (Bridgett Gripman) Maurer and Kathy (Denny Higbee) Maurer; and grandchildren, Olivia & Emma Maurer, Raegen, Beckham, & Carter Maurer, and Ethan & Wesley Johnson; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Rocky was preceded in death by his parents Harold Maurer Sr. and Lillian Maurer (Heath); sister Beverly Watson (Maurer); and brother Harold (Butch) Maurer Jr.
A memorial service to celebrate Rocky’s life will take place on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Hohner Funeral Home in Three Rivers. The family will receive guests for visitation before the service, at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Memorials may be directed to Three Rivers Little League. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
