Ruth Troyer, 77

Ruth A. Troyer, age 77, of Mendon, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Ruth was born on July 7, 1946, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Levi and Lulu (Wickey) Yoder. Ruth was a resident of St. Joseph County her entire life.

On July 1, 1966, Ruth married her husband of 57 years, Mose R. Troyer in Colon, at the South Colon Mennonite Church.

Ruth (Suki to many nieces and nephews) was a homemaker for most of her life. She loved spending time with her family and scrapbooking. She especially loved scrapbooking and researching the one room schoolhouses of St. Joseph County. Ruth was exactly what her name meant “Friend”. She would make you feel like you were her favorite person. She was a faithful prayer warrior spending almost every morning in her “upper room” in prayer and Bible study. She was always positive and loved like Jesus. She loved her family so very much and prayed for them every day. She wanted nothing more than for all of us to find the freedom and joy in a life living for Christ.

Surviving Ruth is her husband Mose R. Troyer of Mendon, children: Mark (Alexia Dawson) Troyer of Douglas, Michigan, Nathan Troyer of Plainfield, Indiana, and Mia (Cory) Gilbert of Colon, grandchildren: Moses (Abby) Troyer, Conor Troyer, Lucie Troyer, Levi Troyer, Fern Gilbert, and Elizabeth “Libby” Gilbert, sister Ida Sue Borkholder, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents Levi and Lulu Yoder, Ruth was preceded in death by her sister Mary Lou Schlabach.

The Troyer family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, from 4 to 8 PM and Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 2 to 8 PM. A funeral service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 10:30 AM with Pastor Tom Schwartz and Pastor Luke Eicher officiating. Interment will follow at Leonidas Cemetery. All visiting hours and funeral services will take place at Grace Christian Fellowship: 300 Timothy Dr, Sturgis, MI 49091.
