Around 7:30 the morning of October 3rd, 2023 Jon fell from some farm machinery in the potato barn beside his house where his employees found him unresponsive. He was life-flighted to Bronson hospital with severe brain injuries. The team of doctors and nurses did everything they could but his brain continued to digress. His family was grateful to have had nine days with him to process his injuries and say goodbye. Jon entered into eternal rest Thursday morning, October 12, 2023 at 12:30 on National Farmers Day.
Jonathan Lowayne Yoder was born July 24, 1979 in Sturgis, a son to Lowayne and Phyllis (Hostetler) Yoder.
Jon has been a resident of St. Joseph County (Sturgis area) most of his life except for when he lived for a year in Sugar Creek, Ohio and 4 years they were missionaries in Kunming, China.
On June 17, 2000 he married Carissa Troyer in Sugar Creek, Ohio.
Jon has worked in farming most of his life except for a few years he worked in construction. He was a member and Elder at Grace Sturgis Church and a board member of the Michigan Potatoes Association.
Jonathan enjoyed traveling, camping, comedy, making people laugh, serving people, and spending time with his wife and children.
Surviving are his wife: Carissa; children: Benjamin Yoder, Madison Yoder, Zoe Yoder, Max Yoder, Mia Yoder, Eva Yoder, and Josiah Yoder; one brother: Mark Yoder; 3 sisters: Monica Yoder, Jessica (Josh) Berkshire, and Jasmine (Adam) Klugh; parents: Lowayne and Phyllis Yoder.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 1:00 to 3:00 and 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 at Grace Sturgis, 300 Timothy, Sturgis, MI 49091.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday at 5:00 at the church with Pastor Luke Eicher, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be directed to Grace Sturgis Church, 300 Timothy, Sturgis, MI 49091. Envelopes are available at the church of the Hackman Family Funeral Homes who have been entrusted with the arrangements.
