Judging results for White Pigeon library chili contest

A White Pigeon man took top honors in both judging categories at Thursday’s “Chili Out at Your Library” event at White Pigeon Township Library.

The inaugural event, a fundraiser to help the library raise funds for a bookmobile, drew 11 participants and more than 80 people sampling the offerings.

Library director Perri Saunders said Charles Worley’s “Boilermaker Tailgate Chili” won first place as declared by a four-person panel of judges, and top honors as determined by popular vote.

A team that entered as simply Brandy and Carl, also of White Pigeon, won second place in the judges’ vote. Their entry was titled Vegan Quinooa Sweet Potato Chili. Judy Broadworth, meanwhile, captured second place in the popular vote with her entry of Thornapple White Chicken Chili.

The library is about a quarter of the way to its goal of $280,000, Saunders said.
