David was born December 14, 1952 in Kalamazoo, son of the late Thomas James and Evelyn Irene (Jones) Alvey.

He met the love of his life, Joan, in high school by joining the school choir. A first date and a stolen first kiss turned into 51 wonderful years of marriage.

David was a residential builder in Sturgis for 25 years. He then was a commercial construction supervisor working for various companies. His last project was the addition at Radiant Life Church in Sturgis.

He loved music, spending time with his family, and building. He built more than just homes though. He built a legacy of love and respect by sharing his faith with his family. The home he created was full of love and laughter.

David is survived by his loving and dedicated wife: Joan and five children, Gabriel (Sherri) Alvey, Joanna (Danny) Holland, Joel (Angela) Alvey, Eden (Adam) Hile, and Stephen (Savannah) Alvey. He was a very proud grandpa to Lilly, Keira, Ben, Kalvin, Brynn, Kaylynn, and Paisley. He was a wonderful brother to Charles (Pam) Alvey, Robert (Ann) Alvey and Richard (Susan) Alvey. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
