Marjorie Jean Probst, age 97, of Sturgis, died Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Optalis Health and Rehabilitation where she has resided the past month. She was born in Centreville on February 28, 1926 the daughter of Roy Russell Nicholas and Clara E. (Gerdes) Nicholas and was a lifetime resident of St. Joseph County. Marjorie graduated from Centreville High School with the class of 1944. She was employed by the Kirch company in Sturgis for 42 years, retiring in 1990. Marjorie was married to Leon Probst in November of 1946 in Angola. They were later divorced. She married Albert Smoker in November of 1965. They were later divorced. Marjorie enjoyed travel, especially to the lakeshore at South Haven and up-north to Baldwin. Prior to retirement she was a member of the Kirch Company bowling team.
Marjorie is survived by two daughters, Linda (Warren VanNortwick) Mackinder of Battle Creek and Brenda Ann (Jon Lego) Probst of Sturgis; two grandchildren, Michele Jamison and Ryan Bradley; four great-grandchildren, Megan Bradley, Zachery Lewis, Taylor Lewis, and Keelan Jamison; several great-great-grandchildren; and by her brother, David (Beverly) Nicholas. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward Nicholas; and granddaughter, Susan Bradley.
Graveside service will be held, Friday, December 1, 2023 at 2:30 in Mendon Cemetery with Rev. Carl Litchfield, Pastor of the Mendon United Methodist Church officiating. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
