Out and About – Week of December 4th

This first week of December is filled with several historical dates to remember.

December 5. The Somalia Campaign began in 1992.
December 7. In 1941, the Japanese attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. It was a day that went down in infamy. The very next day, December 8, 1941, the United States declared war on the empire of Japan. Also on December 7, Hanukkah begins.
Next Monday, December 11, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States. This would end five years later, when World War II officially ended on December 31, 1946.

It’s been said that I am a dreamer at heart. It’s interesting to think about the different ways people dream. Are our dreams in color or are they in black and white? According to a recent study, 12% of people dream in black and white, which is quite likely because black and white television was the norm when these individuals were growing up. In contrast, dreamers who grew up with color television are more likely to dream in color. Another interesting finding from the study is that those who dream in black and white are more likely to be creative.

Dreams are fascinating manifestations of the human subconscious mind. Though we may only experience a handful of dreams each night, dream analysis has been a topic of interest for centuries. Freud believed dreams were a way to process repressed desires, while Jung saw them as a way to connect the the collective unconscious. Today, dream experts believe that dreams serve a variety of purposes, from helping us to process emotions to providing creative inspiration. All of this information is quite interesting. I’m not sure how much of this I take seriously. I think I’d better sleep on it.

Three things to think about as you try to fall asleep:

Do twins ever realize that one of them was unplanned?
Maybe oxygen is slowly killing us and it just takes 75-100 years to fully work.
If poison expires, is it more poisonous or no longer poisonous?
Two confusions that are still unresolved:

At a movie theater, which armrest is yours?
If people evolved from monkeys, why are monkeys still around?
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. There are many who don’t take this fact very seriously. You don’t need to have a hearty breakfast, but a cup of coffee and a jelly doughnut isn’t the best way to start off a healthy day.

Starting your morning with a healthy breakfast is essential for a number of reasons. First, it jump starts your metabolism and gives you the energy you need to begin your day. Without a healthy breakfast, you’ll likely feel sluggish and have trouble concentrating. Second, a healthy breakfast helps you maintain a healthy weight. If you skip breakfast or eat something high in sugar and calories, you’re more likely to crave unhealthy snacks later in the day, leading to weight gain and other potential health risks. A healthy breakfast also helps you avoid overeating at lunch and dinner.

See you Out and About!
