Bryan David Annis, age 64, of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 8, 2023 at his home.
He was born October 29, 1959 in Hillsdale, a son to the late Burton D. and Geraldine (Slocum) Annis.
Bryan has been a resident of Sturgis since moving here in 1995 from Manchester, MI. He graduated from Western High School in Jackson County, and attended Jackson Community College. While living in Jackson he owned a sign and advertising company called Maximum Exposure, where he worked alongside his father and grandfather painting advertisements and billboards by hand. After moving to Sturgis he was employed by Adams Outdoor Advertising, where he designed and planned billboard placements. Before retirement, he most recently worked for the Michiana Saver Publication.
In his younger days, you could catch Bryan with a cigar and good book in hand on his sailboat, where he enjoyed sailing on Klinger Lake. Always in search of the next adventure, he backpacked the pictured rocks alongside Lake Superior, annually camped with the family in Pentwater, MI, and always made time to set up deer camp with the boys opening day of deer season in Meredith, MI. Other hobbies included being a self-made handyman, fixing up an old Jeep, antique camper, and used lawn equipment he considered to be “unpolished gems”.
Surviving are four children: Tara (Bret) Foster and Jack Annis (of first marriage to Cathy Knapp); Max Annis and Canden Annis (of second marriage to Kimberly Trine). All raised in Sturgis. Surviving family includes: his brother Troy (Amy) Annis and sister Lorrianne Gibbons, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Mark Annis.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering celebrating his life will be held at a later date, to be announced.
Memorial donations may be directed to the family to help with expenses and envelopes are available at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis who have been entrusted with the arrangements.
