George Edwin Boughton, age 92, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday morning, December 9, 2023 at OptaliS Health and Rehabilitation in Three Rivers.
He was born August 23, 1931 in Three Rivers, son of the late Harold Byron and Edyth (Shearer) Boughton.
George resided most his life in Sturgis and Three Rivers, with the exception of the short time he lived in California.
On July 7, 1955 he married Shirley Hult in Paradise, California.
Nearly all of George’s working life was in the construction industry. He also did work at the National Carbon Coated Paper Company in Sturgis.
He was an active member of the Christian Fellowship Center in Sturgis.
George was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a past president of the St. Joseph County Historical Society. George was a collector of antiques and other collectibles. He loved going to auctions and garage sales.
He is survived by his wife Shirley; daughter: Sherry (Eric) Fry of Sturgis; sons: Roger (Darlene) Boughton and Gary Boughton, both of Sturgis; 14 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Allen, Raymond and Randy Boughton; granddaughter: Melissa Fry and brother: Kenneth Boughton.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. Due to anticipated inclement weather the memorial service has been cancelled and rescheduled for 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 20th at the Christian Fellowship Center in Sturgis. The Rev. Glenn Middleton will officiate. Private burial of the remains will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis with full military honors being conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post # 133 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
