TRMS student celebrates birthday as Deputy for the Day

St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department helped a Three Rivers Middle School student celebrate an unforgettable birthday.

Braylen Green, who turned 12 earlier this month, was named “Deputy for the Day” Dec. 9.

Captain TJ Baker said he was contacted in November by Green’ mother, Rebecca Linn. She shared how Braylen, from a young age, has decided he is going to work in law enforcement when he’s old enough.

What was going to be a simple tour of the administrative portion of the sheriff’s department unfolded into a much bigger affair. It started with a swearing-in ceremony, overseen by Baker, who pinned a badge onto Braylen’s shirt.

The youngster was then turned over to the supervision of Deputy Veronica Hoggard, who proceeded with a tour of the agency’s office, its training center, dispatch center and its storage barn, which includes seasonal equipment such as marine patrol as well as Major Crimes Task Force equipment.

He and his mom capped their morning with Hoggard for a ride-along throughout Centreville.
