Hayley Melinda Thomas, age 54, of Sturgis, passed away on December 1, 2023 at the Sturgis Hospital Emergency Room following a hard fought battle with alcoholism and homelessness.
She was born October 6, 1969 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Harold and Marcella (Wyatt) Johnson.
Hayley lived most of her life in Sturgis, but had also resided in Hillsdale and Louisiana.
She had been employed by Elkhart Plastics before becoming disabled to work.
She attended Firm Foundation Ministries in Centreville.
Those who knew her will forever remember her special way with animals. She fostered many pets and at one time showed dogs.
She is survived by her husband; Richard Scoot; twin daughters: Kristen and Melinda Hoffman; son: Lucas McDaniel; grandchildren: Dominic, Sehera, Rayne and Jessie; sisters: Penny, Lori, Veronica, Linette and Raeann; brothers: Donald and Mark; special friend: Johnny Holman, Jr. and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister: Mary.
In accordance with family wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate and honor the life of Hayley Melinda Thomas will be held at a later date to be announced.
