Joe McMillin, 75

Joe H. McMillin, age 75, of Sturgis, passed away quietly early Thursday morning, January 4, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He was born August 21, 1948 in Chicago, son of the late Foster and Norma J. (Hastings) McMillin, Jr.

Joe resided nearly his entire life in Sturgis where he was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1966.

On August 19, 1983 he married Cathy Stine in Centreville.

Joe was a talented welder and fabricator by trade. He retired from Look Trailers in Bristol, Indiana. Prior to accepting a position with Look Trailers he had been employed by Haulmark Trailers and Markline Trailers for many years, both companies also located in Bristol.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis and the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club.

Joe had many hobbies and interests including camping, operating heavy equipment, all kinds of motorcycles including motocross, cutting wood, welding, creating and fabricating, and fixing “stuff”, snowmobiling, construction, and hunting.

Joe was a highly talented guy who could design and building anything and was constantly taking on projects for friends, family, and neighbors to find a way to any job easier. Joe died the same way he lived, on his own terms.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 40 years, Cathy; daughter: Chantelle (Jason) Loose of Constantine; son: Christopher McMillin of Sturgis; grandchildren: Ashley Matt) Foura, Austin Loose, Caylie Dibble, Gavin Dibble, and McKenzie McMillin; great grandchildren: Sadie, MJ and James Foura; sister: Jackie (Dennis) Heiple of Sturgis; brother: Scott (Christine) McMillin of Sturgis; brother-in-law: Mark Stenson of Waukesha, Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Becky Stenson.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.

In honoring Joe’s spirit of giving back the family suggests memorial donations be directed to the Sturgis Vocational Education/Trojan Manufacturing Solution Center Fund c/o: Sturgis Area Community Foundation, 310 N. Franks Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091.
