First council meeting held in Vicksburg’s new village hall

Vicksburg municipal officials last week conducted their first meeting inside their new village hall.

Led by village president Tim Frisbie, the council assembled Jan. 29 for the first time at its North Richardson Street location.

The council over the years previously met in a variety of locations due to its former village hall being too small to conduct meetings.

Vicksburg Village Manager Jim Mallery said day-to-day operations started at the 7,800-square-foot site the week of Dec. 18.

The police department, however, began working from the new building a week earlier.

Located on a parcel just north of the village water tower, the $2.7 million complex was paid for up front. Mallery said the fact the village did not take out a loan to finance construction will save Vicksburg taxpayers $1.5 million in interest.

  1. Please explain. How would the interest be more than half the cost of the building?
