A supplemental millage proposal sought by Sturgis Public Schools was voted down during Tuesday’s election.
The proposal would have allowed the district to levy its statutory rate, not to exceed 18 mills, on all property within the district. The final vote was 1,002 against and 868 in favor.
Had the proposal succeeded, it would have generated an increase by 3 mills for a period expiring in 2034. Funds would be used to support general-operating expenses.
The district’s current non-homestead millage is slightly more than 17.68 mills and will remain as a result of Tuesday’s vote.
