Phyllis Andrea Setterblad, age 60, of Sturgis, passed away on February 21, 2024 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
She was born December 16, 1963 in Chicago, daughter of Alf Eric and Patricia Faye (Carr) Setterblad.
Phyllis resided in Sturgis since 1970 coming from Chicago.
Phyllis was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1982. She furthered her education at Glen Oaks Community College where she was a graduate of the nursing program.
On August 22, 2014 she married Earl Deal at the Sturgis Missionary Church.
Phyllis worked as a Registered Nurse at Sturgis Hospital in Sturgis for 22 years. Her last employment was with the Laurels of Coldwater where she also worked as a RN.
She had a true appreciation for animals and was a strong supporter of ARK Animal Rescue and Adoption in Lagrange. She enjoyed sewing and loved time with her family, especially her son and grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband: Earl; son: Joseph E. (Jesi) Montbriand of Helena, Montana; grandsons: Wade and Daxon; brothers: Allan Setterblad of Elkhart, Indiana and David (Natalie) Setterblad of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00, Saturday, March 23rd at Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis where a memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at 4:00. Pastor Charles Vizthum of Whole Life Church in Sturgis will officiate. A continued time of fellowship and the celebrating of Phyllis’ life will follow the memorial service at the home of David and Natalie Setterblad, 66468 M-66 in Sturgis.
In honoring Phyllis’ love of animals, the family suggests memorial donations be directed to ARK Animal Rescue and Adoption, Inc. 0530 E 300 S, LaGrange, IN 46761.

I worked with Phyllis for many years at Sturgis Hospital. We shared lots of laughs in those years, but we also shared tears while we supported each other while our sons were over seas in the military.
My heart goes out to her family and will say prayers for comfort because she will certainly be missed. 🙏🏻💔
