Information sought in home invasion case

St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department officials are appealing to the public for help with a case involving a person who broke into a home and sexually assaulted two female residents last week.

According to an agency media release, deputies responded Wednesday to Sweet Lake Mobile Home Park in Fawn River Township in response to a report of a home invasion.

During the investigation, deputies found that a man had broken into a home between midnight and 5 a.m., and sexually assaulted two residents, according to undersheriff Jason Bingaman.

Investigators have been following leads but not had success locating the suspect, authorities said.

Bingaman asks that anyone who lives in the area of U.S. 12 between County Farm Road and the city of Sturgis check their at-home camera systems for anyone or any vehicles between midnight and 5 a.m. on the morning of March 20. The sheriff’s office believes that the suspect may have driven to the home in a dark-colored passenger car.
