Leon “Stub” Truckey, age 79, of Leonidas, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Medilodge Nursing Home in Kalamazoo. He was born in Leonidas on December 26, 1944 the son of Robert “Bob” and Vera (Stolp) Truckey. On September 2, 1986 he married Karon Morley in Manton, MI. Stub was a man of many talents and was known for being a “jack of all trades”. He was an animal lover and would often take in wild animals that needed help and nurse them back to health. Stub enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was tinkering in his garden, pruning flowers, mushroom hunting, or cruising around back country roads, he was always in touch with nature. One of his passions was fishing at “The Honey Hole” and taking trips to Iron, MI. Stub hunted and trapped, was a hobby farmer, and was one of the original antique pickers before it became popular. Stub was a “down to Earth” man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He was a social chameleon; he could talk to anyone about anything and genuinely cared about everyone’s wellbeing. He had a terrific sense of humor and adored his beloved grandchildren.
Stub is survived by his children; Ross (Alisha) Truckey, Walker (Alejandra Reynel) Truckey, Sky (Adam Welborn) Truckey, Patrick Truckey, and Bobbie (Nick) Smith; five grandchildren; Nelson Smith, Chloe Visscher, Ainsley Smith, Blake Truckey, and Summer Truckey; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Karon; and siblings Beverly Moyer, Loretta Tenney, Delores Moyer, Janice McGreggor, and Ron Truckey.
In keeping with Stub’s wishes, cremation is being conducted. Visiting hours will take place at the Eickhoff Funeral Home (311 W Main St, Mendon, MI 49072) on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 2 until 4pm. A memorial service will begin at 4pm with Pastor Carl Litchfield officiating. It is suggested that donations in Stub’s name be made to the St Joseph County Animal Control.
