Jane Loudenslager, 92

Jane Orcilla Loudenslager, age 92, of Burr Oak, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Bronson Methodist Hospital of Kalamazoo. Jane passed peacefully surrounded by family.

Jane had an interesting life.  She was born in Topeka, KS on April 22, 1932, daughter of Ben and Ida (Greaser) Haney.  Born during the dust bowl and the Great Depression, Jane lived in the small town of Obar, New Mexico until the age of 8 when her family move back East to a family dairy farm in Franklin, New York.  Jane graduated from Franklin Delaware Institute with the class of 1952.  She went on to work at the Health Bar in the Bresee’s Department Store where she met Floyd Loudenslager, of the United States Army who was off on leave.

On April 8, 1956, Floyd and Jane married in Franklin at the Franklin United Methodist Church.  Floyd and Jane then move to Burr Oak, Michigan to his family farm.  Jane lived on that farm for 68 years.

Jane is survived by four daughters: Karen (Jim) Ducett of Colon, Marilyn (Lee) Thelen of St. Johns, Bonnie (Ken) Carman of Kennebunk, Maine, and Barb (Brent) Lewallen of Goshen.  Jane has 10 grandchildren: Jim Bob Ducett of Colon, Laura (Ryan) Kyle of Colon, Andy (Sarah) Ducett of Burr Oak, Karee (Scott) Stockdale of Colon, Katie Thelen of Murray, KY, Leon Matthew (Maddy) Thelen of Plainwell, Maggie Carman of Kennebunk, Maine, Emily Carman of Brooks, Maine, Brandan (Grace) Lewallen of Burns Harbor, IN and Morgan (Tom) Nowak of Bristol, IN.  Jane has 17 great grandchildren who affectionately called her GG. She is also survived by her beloved dog Mia. Jane was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and often shared stories of her family with people she met.

In addition to her parents Jane was preceded in death by her husband Floyd in August of 2020, infant daughter Carolyn Jane, and twin infant grandsons Daniel and Kenny Carman.

The Loudenslager family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring nurses, PCAs, doctors and all the hospital staff who were so kind to Jane and our family.

The Loudenslager family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 5 to 8 PM at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD in Colon. A funeral service Celebrating Janes life will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, May 22, 2024, also at the funeral home, with pastor Don Smith of Firm Foundation Ministries officiating. Interment will follow in South Colon Cemetery.

GG opened her historic barn, at the farm, to her great grandchildren to house the livestock they raise for 4-H projects.  Jane was proud of this opportunity and spent many a day’s watching the youth train their animals for the fair.  As an alternative to flowers the family is requesting donations to the St. Joseph County 4-H program and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
