Joseph A. Peoples, age 96, passed away at Fairview Nursing Home in Centreville on Saturday, May 18, 2024. He was born on September 30, 1927 in Forsyth County, North Carolina the son of Luther and Mary (West) Peoples. Joseph married Joan E. Griffith in 1992 in Alexandria, Virginia.
Joseph traveled the world sharing his woodworking talents with high end curators and museums. If you’ve ever visited a museum, odds are, you have seen his work. One of the works of art he created, was at a museum near Venice, Italy where a replica of the famous waterways was created around the museum. Not only were his carpentry skills unmatched, his famous southern cooking skills were also undefeated; you may not know how to pronounce the meal, or identify what was in it, but it was delicious. He was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Sitting by the riverbank to take in the sights of the riverboats floating by and loving his grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by his children; Kristi Jo (David) Ray, Paula (Russ) Johnson, Alexander (Sammantha) Pierce, Ray (Marie) Pierce, and Milo Pierce; daughter in law Janice Peoples; grandchildren; Erin Pierce, Jamie Pierce, A.J. Pierce, Kloie Pierce, David Ray IV, Jeremy Johnson, Richard Johnson, Amanda Street, and Joseph E. Peoples; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan, and son Michael Peoples.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation is being conducted. A private family ceremony will take place at a later date. It is suggested that any donations in Joseph’s name be directed to your local homeless shelter. Condolences and memories may be expressed to the family at eickhofffuneralhome.com
