Melissa Davis, 48

Melissa Leona Davis, age 48, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday evening, May 19, 2024 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

She was born December 7, 1975, in LaGrange, Indiana, daughter of the late John Steele and Mary Ann (Huber) Davis.

Melissa was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1994. She furthered her education at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant where she studied sports medicine.

For the past 14 years she had been employed by Lippert Components (BPC) in Goshen. Prior to joining Lippert, she worked at Syndicate Systems in Middlebury for several years.

She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis.

Melissa had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hiking and rockhounding. She was gifted mechanically and seemed to always be trouble shooting and fixing and repairing something. She was also a talented welder.

Melissa is survived by her son: Geoffery Brown at home; stepfather: Harold Christner; sisters: Christina Christner and Erica Christner both of Sturgis and Jennifer Davis of Bronson; brothers: John (Jennifer) Steele of Sturgis and Clint Davis of Pitts, Georgia; 13 nieces and nephews; a great niece, great nephew and expecting another great nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

In accordance with family wishes cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Melissa L. Davis will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 28th at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father Andrew Raczkowski, celebrant. Committal of the remains will follow the Mass at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091 is entrusted with the arrangements.
