Dan Culberson, age 73, of Colon, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, July 17, 2024, at his home.
He was born August 20, 1950, in Wiborg, Kentucky, son of the late Donald and Austene (Shelton) Culberson.
Dan resided in Colon since 1970, coming from Albion, Michigan.
On October 14, 1989, he married Barbara (Fields) Waltke in Colon.
Dan retired from Vanguard Industries in Colon following 34 years of dedicated employment. Along with Barbara, he owned and operated B&D Travel in Sturgis and Three Rivers.
He was a member of Firm Foundation Ministries in Centreville.
Dan enjoyed traveling and fixing things and loved animals, especially his cats. His greatest joy in life was his family. He took great pride in his five children, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, and the over 50 children he and Barb helped raise that they considered adopted grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara Culberson; daughters: Christina (Andy) Holman of Columbia City, Indiana and Brandy (Ken) Schwartz of Sturgis; sons: Matt Dixon of Bronson, Eric Culberson of Moyock, North Carolina and Craig Waltke of Colon; 12 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; 40 others he and Barb considered grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including special nephews: Nathan (Emily) Horne of Bronson and Benjamin (LaDonna) Horne of Portage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughters: Ella and Annabella Schwartz, brothers: Donald Culberson and Terri Culberson; sister: June Cote; stepfather: Junior Eastabrook daughter-in-law: Billie Culberson.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, July 26th, at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis and from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 27th, at Bridges Community Church, 27570 Marvin Rd. in Centreville where funeral services celebrating the life of Dan Culberson will immediately follow the visitation at 10:00 A.M. Pastor Rod Detweiler of Firm Foundation Ministries in Centreville will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.
