US 131 project update

Michigan Department of Transportation’s Chris Jacobs has issued an update regarding the second phase of U.S. 131 construction.

The project, which started April 15, is concentrated to an area that includes the village of Schoolcraft and an area north to Shaver Road.

According to Jacobs, completed work includes curb, gutter and sidewalk from Holmes Street to the railroad crossing; hot-mix asphalt leveled in the southbound lane from Lyons Street to U Avenue; hot-mix asphalt leveled from the railroad to Eliza Street; and hot-mix asphalt leveled at the railroad crossing.

The two-week outlook includes permanent signs southbound from Lyons Street to XY Avenue; storm sewer installation northbound from the railroad to Lyons Street; cleanup of the southbound side of the highway; and median restoration of Lyons Street to U Avenue.

Upcoming work includes opening southbound lanes; switching traffic from outside lanes north of Lyons Street; and Shaver Road closure at some point in the first half of August.
