The National Weather Service classified Tuesday’s storm as a category EF2 tornado.
Officials from the agency’s Northern Indiana office said top wind speeds were 115 miles per hour and followed a ground path of nearly 8 1/2 miles. The tornado featured a width of 700 yards.
Its path went in a southeast direction from the county line, just north of M-216. Weather Service officials said it caused extensive tree damage in areas along Day Road, Floating Bridge Road, Mount Zion Road, Null Road and Cowling Road. It continued across U.S. 131 and caused extensive damage in the area of North Main Street, where it terminated.
According to the Weather Service, barns, residential roofs, center pivots and power poles were all damaged as a result.
