Motorcyclist hits deer in Cass County

An Indiana man was injured after the motorcycle he was driving struck a deer in Cass County’s Mason Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called shortly before 9 p.m. July 30 to the area of Calvin Center Road and Mason Street.

Investigators said 40-year-old South Bend resident Joshua Stillwagon was driving south on Calvin Center Road when a deer entered the roadway. Stillwagon told authorities he was unable to avoid the deer and it was struck by his motorcycle.

Stillwagon was transported Elkhart General Hospital. Authorities said he was wearing a helmet and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
