Update – River cleanup

Participants in last month’s river cleanup of the Nottawa Creek report the event was deemed a success.

Coordinator Eric Pretzlav said the team of 20 volunteers started at Rawson’s King Mill Dam and covered 2 1/2 miles. The route included a small portion of the St. Joseph River.

Pretzlav said two trash bags were filled and debris included bottles, cans, fast-food containers, wrappers and various pieces of Styrofoam.

Volunteers included representatives from the Mendon Green Clovers 4-H Club.

Pretzlav acknowledged Jeff Pant at Fawn River Kayak Guide and Paddle for his continued support of the annual cleanup program.

The final event of the 2024 season is Sept. 21 on the Portage River, from North Fisher Lake Road to Carpenter Road.
