Mendon man sentenced in police standoff case

A Mendon man at the center of a police standoff last year has been sentenced in St. Joseph County Circuit Court.

Authorities said Terrell Reese, 38, will serve at least nine years in prison as a result of the Sept. 17 incident.

Reese plead no contest to assault with intent to murder, court officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 200 block of Lane Avenue in response to a report of domestic violence.

Authorities said Reese fired shots at responding deputies, forcing them to set up a perimeter around the property.

Deputies eventually fired tear gas into the house, which helped lead to Reese’s arrest.

He was originally charged at the time with three counts of attempted murder of a police officer and nine felony firearm charges.
