Update on US 131 project

Michigan Department of Transportation’s Chris Jacobs has issued an update regarding the second phase of U.S. 131 construction.

The project, which started April 15, is concentrated to an area that includes the village of Schoolcraft and an area north to Shaver Road.

According to Jacobs, recently completed work includes installation of a storm sewer in the northbound lane from Eliza Street to Vienna Street; road-grade development from Pine Street to Eliza Street and Clay Street to Lyons Street; utility relocation; sidewalk installation at XY Avenue; and signal work at Lyons Street.

Meanwhile, the biggest news to come out of the project is the closure of Shaver Road at U.S. 131. It is expected to remain closed through Sept. 20. In addition, the westbound U Ave at U.S. 131 will be closed for a week starting Sept. 23.
