Lynn C. Gest, age 87, of White Pigeon, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, September 14, 2024, at his home.
He was born December 13, 1936, in Burr Oak, son of the late John and Blendena (Cummings) Gest.
On April 16, 1955, he married Gloria Weiderman. They were married 69 years.
Lynn was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis where he served as an usher and enjoyed playing in the church golf league.
Lynn and Gloria traveled throughout the United States and Canada in their travel trailer, including driving to Alaska which was his dream trip.
Lynn enjoyed most of all hunting, especially deer hunting. He also enjoyed playing golf but, most of all the family gatherings at home.
He was a skilled craftsman, building three homes. He was also a fan of the Detroit Lions, Tigers, and Dodge Pick-up trucks.
Lynn retired from the St. Joseph County Road Commission following many years of dedicated employment. Prior to joining the Road Commission, he worked at the Harter Corporation, Culligan, and Murphy Oil Company, all in Sturgis.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 69 years: Gloria; daughter: Julie MacPherson of Sturgis; son: Dan (Susan) Gest of White Pigeon; Daughter-in-law: Linda Gest of Bristol, Indiana; four grandchildren: Kristopher Gest of Goshen, Indiana, Triena (Sena) Gest of Germany, Andrew (Haley) Gest of Bear Lake and Jennifer (Travis) Arnett of Battle Creek; great-grandchildren: Anlyssa (Danny) Strange, Austin (Ally) Gest, Brock Gest, Lucas Gest, Elizabeth Gest, Hannah Gest and Josie Arnett; four great great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Harold Arensdorf of Tryon, Nebraska and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Michael Gest; son-in-law: John MacPherson; sisters: Roberta Miller, Jacqualyn Bower, Jocelyn Baldwin, Shirley Arnesdorf, Donivee Gest, Sandra Coker and Sally Coker.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, September 20th at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis and from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 21st at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 S. Lakeview Ave. in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Lynn C. Gest will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00. The Revs. Lawrence Matro and Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A graveside committal will take place at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
