Yunker appointed to complete Allen’s term on County Commission

Christina Yunker will get a two-month tryout as a member of the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners.

The unexpected, early membership to the seven-member board is the result of commissioner Dennis Allen announcing his resignation effective Oct. 31. News of Allen’s decision to not complete his two-year term – which expires Dec. 31 – was shared during Tuesday’s special executive committee meeting.

A Sturgis Township resident, Yunker is commissioner-elect to succeed Allen and was poised to join the county board Jan. 1. Commissioners agreed Tuesday to appoint Yunker to complete Allen’s term.

The 47-year-old Yunker has been St. Joseph County Grange Fair manager the past 18 months.

The county’s 5th District is comprised of Nottawa and Sherman townships, a portion of Sturgis Township and a sliver of the city of Sturgis.
