It’s election day and here’s a look at local, contested races …
Two county positions feature more than one candidate. The highest-profile vote involves two people hoping to replace David Tomlinson as St. Joseph County Probate Court judge.
The six-year, non-partisan post is being sought by Nottawa resident Kevin Kane and Three Rivers native Kelly Ward.
Tomlinson has aged-out and is unable to seek re-election.
Meanwhile, voters will decide whether sheriff candidates Chad Spence or write-in hopeful Gordon Evilsizor replaces Mark Lillywhite to a four-year term as the county’s highest elected law-enforcement authority.
Spence captured more than 5,500 votes in August to win the primary. Evilsizor placed fifth in the five-man primary, receiving 380 votes three months ago.
