Hilman Eling, 82

Hilman Jay Eling, age 82, of Centreville, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024 at his home, in the company of his loving family. He was born December 8, 1941 in Lake City, MI, a son of Howard and Josephine (Meekhoff) Eling.

Hilman graduated from McBain High School in 1960. He received a Bachelors Degree in Agribusiness from Michigan State University. On April 26, 1963 he married Lois “Dolly” Schwartz in Centreville. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2002.

Hilman began his career with Farm Bureau Feed Services as manager of the Three Rivers, Mendon, and Centreville areas. He then worked for Beard Industries in Frankfort, IN as a regional sales manager. He finally retired in 1998 from Top Line Equipment, Zeeland, MI, where he worked in sales and was a designer of feed and grain systems.

Hilman enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and cutting wood. Favorite memories were traveling, smelt dipping, and rustic camping with extended family. He especially  loved the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He had been a Centreville little league coach and a Centreville FFA supporter. Hilman was a member of the Colon American Legion.

Surviving are two sons Jason (Toni) Eling, Asheville, NC, Stacy (Theresa) Eling, Mendon,  daughter Tammy (Dave) Eling-Hawver, Centreville,  many grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother Myron (Roz) Eling, Albion, IN, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife “Dolly”.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.   Private family graveside services will be held at Nottawa Township Cemetery. A public Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. To sign Hillman’s guest book and leave a message for the family visit www.eleyfuneralhomes.com.
