Two longtime members of Vicksburg Community Schools Board of Education were honored during a ceremony Wednesday.
Carol Lohman and Skip Knowles last week completed a tenure of 40 years each as board members. They chose to not seek re-election in August, bringing to a close a four-decade run that started in the mid-1980s.
Lohman, 83, and Knowles, 75, were recognized during an event at Indian Run Golf Club yesterday. Over the course of the three-hour event, more than 100 people showed up to wish the outgoing board of education members a happy retirement.
Though she will no longer be a board of education member, Lohman said she plans to stay on as a 43-year member of the board that oversees Vicksburg Community Schools Foundation.
Knowles, meanwhile, has served as board president for 37 of his 40 years on the board.
Knowles has been a member of the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency Board of Education for 20 years and is president of its board, too. His term with KRESA expires in 2029.
