County homelessness to be surveyed on January 29th

Neighborhoods Inc. of Battle Creek, the Housing Assessment and Resource Agency for St. Joseph County, will conduct the annual Point-in-Time Count later this month.

The annual event aims to identify and survey individuals and families experiencing homelessness in St. Joseph County.

The PIT Count is a nationwide initiative mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Event organizers said it provides vital data to assess the scope of homelessness in local communities, and to guide funding decisions and policy development.

On Jan. 29, over a five-hour period starting at 7 p.m., Neighborhoods Inc. of Battle Creek, in partnership with community organizations, volunteers and service providers, will coordinate efforts to locate and assist those who are unsheltered or living in temporary housing.
