Cherie Lynn French, age 72, of Burr Oak, passed away Tuesday morning, April 1, 2025, at her home.
She was born October 29, 1952 in Michigan, daughter of the late Ted and Laura Mae (Asher) French.
Cherie resided her whole life in St. Joseph County, and in Burr Oak for the past 25 years.
She was a graduate of Three Rivers High School. Shortly after her graduation she accepted a position with GTE where she worked as a telephone operator for 12 years. She worked at American Metal Fab in Three Rivers for several years and at area restaurants.
Cherie had a true love for horses and was very active in 4-H Saddle Club. She enjoyed showing, riding, training, and teaching others to ride. She was an avid gardener. Never wanting anything go to waste she would can, and freeze or preserve her harvest. Cherie was a dedicated homemaker, and her cooking skills will be forever missed.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated life partner: Ronnie Hughes of Burr Oak; stepchildren: Melissa (Javier) Leija and Phillip (Mindy) Hughes both of Nebraska and Eric Hughes of Burr Oak; grandchildren: Ella and Willa Hughes and Javier, Malakai and Gianna Leija.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepsister: Jeanette Shears.
In honoring Cheri’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and burial of the remains will take place at Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak at a later date.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
