Florence Elizabeth Flowers, age 90, of Burr Oak, Mich., passed away early Friday morning, Dec. 25, 2009, at her home.
She was born Dec. 9, 1919, in Sturgis, Mich., a daughter to the late Elmer and Elsie (Bush) Miller.
Mrs. Flowers had resided in the Sturgis and Burr Oak area her entire life. She attended and graduated from Plum School country school in the 8th grade.
On Sept. 26, 1936, she married Carl Flower in Sturgis. He died July 25, 1988.
She retired from the Harter Corporation in Sturgis following several years of dedicated employment. For 17 years she had worked at Transogram in Sturgis and she had also worked at the Kirsch Company in Sturgis and Bronson Plastics in Bronson.
She was a longtime member of the First Church of God in Sturgis and enjoyed knitting, crochet and gardening. Mrs. Flowers had a true love for children and her door was always open to a child that needed that was in need of a home or someone to talk to or receive guidance from.
She is survived by one daughter, Debra (Gary) Kindig of Spring Hill, Tenn.; six sons, Keith Flowers of Burr Oak, Richard (Margaret) Flowers of Burr Oak, Roland (Janet) Flowers of Beaverton, Michael (Robin) of Nashville, Alfred (Mary) Flowers of Centreville and Randy (his fiancée Lori Shaw) Flowers of Burr Oak; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Miller and Kenneth Miller, both of Burr Oak; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Danny Flowers; seven brothers, Harold, Vernon, Norman, Clyde, Floyde, Gene and Junior Miller.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Flowers will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Randy Evans of the New Beginnings Church in Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
