Eleanor “Ellie” J. Richmond, age 93, of Sturgis, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday afternoon, June 18, 2025, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born on August 16, 1931 in Blue Hill, Maine, daughter of the late Henry and Alice (Clarey) Mutanen.
Ellie resided in Sturgis since 1952 coming from Winter Harbor, Maine.
On September 23, 1951, she married Calvin A. Richmond in Ellsworth, Maine. He preceded her in death December 12, 2000.
She had been employed by Sturgis Public Schools Food Services and was a playground supervisor. She also worked at the Community Child Care Center, and she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.
Ellie was a founding member of Sturgis Wesleyan Church, and attended Light and Life Wesleyan Church in Three Rivers, and most recently the Sturgis Church of Christ in Sturgis.
She also enjoyed reading, singing traditional hymns, and loved time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters: Alice Richmond-Hurst and Shelia (Doug) Anway both of Sturgis; three sons: Calvin (Alicia) Richmond, Jr. of Vicksburg, Gregory (Cari) Richmond of Portage and Paul (Lori) Richmond of Vicksburg; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; Sister: Alice Vanek of Florida; brother: Larry Carter of Maine and several great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Son-in-law: Ronald Hurst, grandchildren: Kimberly Richmond and Cedar Boone McEntire and sisters: Marion Cross and Sylvia Estes.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, June 27th at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Ellie Richmond will be held at the funeral home Saturday, June 28th at 2:00. The Rev. George Cleverley of Sturgis Church of Christ will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
