Susan B. Owen, age 81, of Sturgis, went to be with her Lord and Savior and was reunited with loved ones on Tuesday morning, July 1, 2025, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
Sue was born on April 19, 1944 in LaGrange, Indiana, the daughter of the late E. Everett and Wilma B. (Myers) Owen. She spent her entire life in Sturgis, living in the family home on Jefferson Street for 75 years. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1962.
Caring for others came naturally to Sue, and she spent her working years doing what she loved — taking care of children as a daycare provider. She was a longtime member of Sturgis Church of Christ, where she found a strong sense of faith and community.
Sue had a creative side and enjoyed sewing and macramé. She also had a deep love for animals and always had a soft spot for her cats and dogs.
She is survived by her nieces, Sandie Owen of Sturgis and Patty Owen Stockert of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and her nephew, Steven Owen of San Diego, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Max L. Owen and Ream A. Owen, and her nephews Rick Owen, Craig Krontz, and Max Owen Stockert.
As Sue requested, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service and placement of her ashes will be held at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis, with Pastor George Cleverley of Sturgis Church of Christ officiating.
Those wishing to honor Sue’s memory may make donations to the Thurston Woods Village Staff Appreciation Fund at 307 N. Franks Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091, or to Sturgis Church of Christ at 901 N. Lakeview Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091.
