Farrand Hall facing court over alleged zoning violations

A popular Colon Township business is being taken to court by local leaders over allegations of zoning violations.

WWMT reported that the issue centers on Farrand Hall, a rural venue for communal dining events on the grounds of the historic Farrand Homestead.

Colon Township officials said its owners, James Gray and Jacob Hagan, are not following approved uses and not effectively addressing parking problems.

Gray and Hagan, however, contend they are targets of a harassment campaign that has persisted for most of the eight years they have owned the property.

During a recent township board meeting, Gray and Hagan noted they put in a parking lot to mitigate the issue, but were issued a citation after the lot was not finished by May 1. Visitors continued to park in the easement, which Gray and Hagan call a needless reaction to a good-faith effort.

Gray and Hagan said they are ready to legally defend themselves if necessary, but also ready to move on.
