Lila Royer, 66

Lila Royer, age 66, of Burr Oak, Mich., passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, in Cadillac, Mich.

She was born Sept. 10, 1943, in Burr Oak, a daughter to Junior Gerald Summey and Laura Louise Milliman.

Lila lived nearly her entire life in Burr Oak and was a graduate of Burr Oak High School with the Class of 1962.

On March 2, 1963, she married Ray Royer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. He preceded her in death in 2005.

For six years, Lila and her husband, Ray, lived in Jordan, Mont., with their three children. They also owned and operated the Burr Oak Greens and Things (green house nursery) for over 20 years. Lila enjoyed experiencing the outdoors with her family, hunting and fishing, and was an accomplished seamstress and craft maker. Her true love though was helping others, young and old. Lila spent all of her life giving of herself and taking care of others less fortunate, whether she knew them or not.

She is survived by three sisters and two brothers, Gary Summey of Ft. Myers, Fla., Carol Lash of Lake City, Mich., Mel Summey of Lake City, Mich., Pat Gordon of Tulsa, Okla., and Robert Summey of Sturgis; her three sons, Vincent E. Royer of Sturgis, Scott E. Royer of Burr Oak and Jason M. Royer of Burr Oak; grandsons, Coleman R. Royer of Coldwater, Dalton S. Royer of Sturgis and Zachary M. Royer of Howe, Ind.; several nieces and nephews and a very close friend, Robert Redmond of Wellston, Mich.

As with her beloved husband, Ray, and in loving memory of Lila, her family would like to remind all to “remember to take a kid hunting and fishing.”

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place with no visitation or funeral. A memorial service for close friends and family will be held at a later date to be announced.
